Low Maintenance free Garden replaces Jungle

We have all seen them – front gardens abandoned to weeds and looking out onto back jungle gardens where anything could be lurking and where the space is not only ugly but entirely wasted.  Potential house buyers will look at the dilapidation and not even want to look in the house unless it is priced at half others in the street.  And yet some people are so busy, they work hard, they just have no time to spend or have any interest in a garden.

One good summer (or winter) a few visits to the DIY store and builders yard and householders of jungle gardens can create an almost maintenance-free garden room and attractive front garden.

Firstly it is well to measure the garden and draw a plan (envelope will do). You are going to cover most of the garden with paving stones or gravel (the latter is cheaper).  You may choose to have a narrow bed down one side, and perhaps a semi-circular bed (around one and a half to two metres at its widest.)  at a corner or along another side. You could use this for planting clumpy perennials – ask at your garden centre for no-trouble plants.

First clear any rubbish and then remove the turf and take it to the tip for recycling. Mark out where the beds are to be if any. If you are laying paving stones ensure base is flat. Buy paving stones or gravel and have them delivered. Lay  heavy duty weed control fabric down where you are putting paving stones/gravel. Lay the paving stones/gravel. (Did you watch ground Force ? This doesn’t take long).

The buy some compost or top soil. Take advice at your garden centre on plants, perhaps some fruit trees.. Plant through weed fabric for low maintenance.

Then buy a seat or chairs and table. Enjoy your garden room.
