Repainting a fence is not an art, it’s a technical achievement

We have quite a lot of fence. There were many houses built behind us it will happen to your too very soon) and so they don’t have to look at us there is a tall fence separating new from much older. We also had a new fence built between us and our next door neighbour when the old one was totally demolished by the wind. It was already treated when it was put up so we thought it was Ok for a few years. However, our neighbours went ahead and painted their side green.

The paint blew through the holes given our fence green measles. You can only put up with these for just so long. The other tall fence has its shade side towards us but gets covered in bright green moss. Last year we went to the DIY place and got some moss remover. It certainly looked better. Then this year was to be the year of the fence painting. What colour? Not green as this reminded me of the lavatory green I remember in my youth. After a near international incident marital harmony was restored by a political agreement of Harvest something or other. Armed with a large pot of paint and a large brush I began.

Its harder than it looks being a fence painting artist. Hoping to attract sympathy I pointed out to the other half that more appeared to be splashing on my face than on the fence. He gave a few hints on how to improve my technique. I was getting tired. My arm hurt. Unmoved,  he disappeared. However, he arrived later carrying a paint sprayer from the DIY store and proceeded to zip the paint onto the fence at a rate of knots and was soon finished once he had been for a refill. Now I realise where I went wrong- I should have argued the need for technology and a technical expert before I started. Mind you, you have to be prepared to clean up after a technical expert.
